Dr. Murphy graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Since that time he has been very active in his profession, even serving as president of the Ohio Optometric Association in 1997/98. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, an organization dedicated to education and research. He has received the Optometric Recognition Award for continuing education attendance of more than two and one-half times the legal state requirement annually since 1985. He has also received two Outstanding Service Awards from the Ohio Optometric Association and a Distinguished Service Alumni Award from The Ohio State University. In 2001, he received Ohio's highest award, The Ohio Optometrist of the Year Award.
